Joan Sotkin knows how to create prosperity—from
the inside out. After years of struggling financially,
Joan found her calling at age sixty when her Web site
ProsperityPlace.com became an Internet sensation. Her
dynamic personality and holistic approach to achieving
wealth have made her a sought-after prosperity guide,
speaker, and workshop leader. Her thirty years of research
into the connection between emotions and money blazes
a pathway to prosperity through personal growth rather
than quick fixes.
Joan received her BA in English from Rutgers University
and subseqently, after brief stints as a schoolteacher
and salesperson, worked in radio, producing several
successful Los Angeles–based shows and becoming
a popular guest in her own right. In 1983, while living
in Orange County, California, she established a retail
business, Joan’s Crystals, selling her personal
line of stones in over 600 outlets and through a mail-order
catalog. Despite its initial success as the first business
of its kind in the healing community, Joan’s Crystals
went bankrupt, prompting Joan to explore the connection
between her emotional and financial states. With her
newfound wisdom, she went on to develop Build Your Own
Business, Inc., a company that provided information
to first-time business owners.
In 1996, Joan moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where
she established a Web site development company and published
a popular e-zine called The E-Commerce Advisor. Today,
she focuses primarily on ProsperityPlace.com, which
enjoys a following of over 20,000 monthly visitors and
125,000 subscribers.
Joan is an active member of the National Organization
of Business and Professional Women, Rotary International,
and The Executive Committee (TEC), as well as a former
member of the National Speakers’ Association.
In addition to leading a weekly prosperity group, she
consults with private and business clients seeking greater
comfort with money.
